As Australia remains vulnerable to extreme weather, it is not surprising that some of the roads in the country are in extremely poor condition. Motor insurance specialist Eric Insurance has delved into bad roads across Australia and their impacts on certain parts of vehicles.
Eric Insurance has reminded its customers to watch out for their tyres and wheels when travelling on remote country roads as potholes, undulations, and debris are more common there than in other areas.
“These can cause serious damage to your wheels and tyres,” Eric Insurance said. “Modern cars can have wheel sizes anywhere from 17” to 20”, so replacing a damaged wheel and tyre at the same time could cost well over a thousand dollars.”
It further explained that this kind of damage is not covered by a regular comprehensive insurance policy, which usually covers only damage related to an accident or theft.
Eric Insurance suggested taking out a car insurance product that meets customers' needs adequately, such as policies that cover tyre puncture, wheel damage, towing cost, emergency accommodation, vehicle, car rental, and roadside assistance.
Vehicle insurance companies in Australia have been busy implementing initiatives to help drivers and their passengers remain safe now that people are back on the road.
In April, the Australian Associated Motor Insurance (AAMI) teamed up with digital music service provider Spotify to launch a driver safety campaign. Meanwhile, Queensland-based car insurer RACQ recently focused on pathway safety by enabling Queenslanders to report “problem paths” in their suburbs.
