Delta Insurance Australia has appointed Melissa Downman as the new underwriting manager – management liability.
The appointment aligns with the company's intent to explore fresh opportunities in the Australian insurance market.
Downman (pictured), a financial lines senior underwriter, brings a wealth of experience garnered over 17 years in the insurance industry.
Having commenced her career as a property manager before transitioning to insurance in 2006, Downman has steadily climbed the ranks from underwriting assistant to her current role. She has also served as a junior board member and underwriting assistant program manager across Australia and New Zealand.
“Coming on board heading management liability, I'm keen to make my mark in a major opportunity in the Brisbane-and-surrounds areas of Queensland. There is an enormous SME [small to medium sized enterprise] customer base requiring packaged product elements from the Delta Insurance product set,” Downman said.
Delta founder and director Stephen Carey expressed enthusiasm about Downman's appointment.
“It's great to have her on board, and we're looking forward to seeing her take the strategic reins of the management liability portfolio. Melissa has clear ideas and with her work ethic, we're expecting to target whole new sectors of business, rather than looking to switch customers from one underwriter to another,” he said.
Delta entered the Australian market in 2022. The firm launched with an initial suite of insurance offerings, including professional indemnity (PI), cyber insurance, and commercial liability.
