Specialist commercial insurance provider CNA Hardy has appointed James Fryer as class manager, mining specialist.
Fryer – who will join CNA Hardy on September 18, 2017 – is currently underwriter and managing director at IMIU International Mining Industry Underwriters. He is responsible for underwriting both operational and construction books for mining clients worldwide, as well as managing a specialist mining risk engineering team.
A chartered chemical engineer, Fryer worked within the heavy industry and chemical sectors before starting his insurance career. He served as risk engineer at Charles Taylor Consulting and Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA), and was an underwriter and engineering practice leader at Torus Insurance.
At CNA Hardy, Fryer will be responsible for building its mining capabilities, driving profitable growth, and raising awareness of the company’s global proposition. He will report to head of property Lloyd Tunnicliffe.
Patrick Gage, chief underwriting officer at CNA Hardy, said Fryer’s technical knowledge and specialist skillset will assist in the development of the insurer’s mining and heavy industry sectors.
“We are delighted to have recruited James to head up and develop a dedicated mining capability. James joins the property team at a very exciting time, with the recent launch of our natural resources offering,” commented Gage.
He continued: “James’ appointment really demonstrates our intention to bring industry market leaders to our underwriting teams, as we work towards our long-term strategy to build scale and relevance across our chosen sectors.”
