As the COVID-19 pandemic persists in Australia, Austbrokers Coast to Coast CEO and broking officer Dale Hansen, who has won several Insurance Business awards over the years and was recently included in the Insurance Business Hot List 2022, shared how the insurance industry can ride the waves of these unprecedented difficult times.
In an interview with Insurance Business, 2022 Hot Lister Hansen (pictured) emphasised the importance of communication, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone to go digital. For example, many brokers still call their clients and send premium invoices electronically even when lockdown restrictions in Australia have already been lifted.
“Brokers need to engage with their clients more and really understand their clients’ business in a much better way than they have done in the past,” Hansen said. “We must do things differently than the direct-to-market insurers, because if we are not value-adding, the broker will lose to the direct-to-market insurer on price each and every time.”
With working from home now the new normal in Australia, Hansen noted that insurance companies are thriving amid tough times by completing processes faster and more cost-effectively, as well as securing data that they can use more responsibly and intelligently.
“While we might not like all the digitalization or the things that it does, it’s going to have its benefits in the long run,” he said.
