Oliver Bearman, the 18-year-old son of Aventum Group CEO David Bearman, logged points in his first-ever F1 race following a seventh-place finish in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Bearman stepped in as a replacement for Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who was forced to withdraw from the race after he was diagnosed with an appendicitis.
Originally ready to race in Formula 2, Bearman was given only an hour of practice time before the qualifying round. He qualified in P11 on the grid, ahead of veteran drivers such as Alex Albon and Daniel Ricciardo.
Following a grueling competition, Bearman placed seventh in the race, ahead of F1 legend Lewis Hamilton, who secured a ninth-place finish. Bearman’s teammate under the Prancing Horse banner, Charles LeClerc, finished third, while three-time world champion Max Verstappen continued his and Red Bull’s dominance with a first-place finish.
Asked about his first foray into F1, Bearman said the experience “destroyed” him, noting that it was a “difficult race.”
“Not the most comfortable but I’m happy that we finished quickly. It was good motivation to finish the race quicker,” Bearman said in an interview.
