In March, insurance giant AUB named Susan Mitchell as its new chief financial officer – only to retract the statement a month later. Now, it seems the group has finally found its latest senior exec.
In a statement released late last week, CEO Mark Searles confirmed industry veteran Mark Shanahan would be stepping into the role, effective April 12, 2018.
“We are looking forward to Mark joining the team and having the benefit of the experience that he will bring to the role,” Searles wrote in the statement.
In an email to Insurance Business, Searles also said the last-minute change by no means compromised the quality of the appointment.
“We had a very strong candidate list for the role and while we were let down earlier in the week due to unforeseen circumstances, we were able to quickly secure an equally strong candidate from our shortlist,” he wrote.
Shanahan boasts over 25 years’ experience in CFO and senior operational roles across Australia, Asia and Europe – he joins AUB following a two-year stint as CFO and COO at Australian Ethical Investment Limited.
Prior to his role at Australian Ethical Investment, Shanahan spent almost 15 years at Macquarie Group, where he was most recently the chief financial officer of the banking and financial services group.
Searles also thanked outgoing CFO Jodie Blackledge for her service and said she would be departing the firm on May 11, after a period of handover has taken place.
