Corporate regulator ASIC is offering fees relief and free financial counselling to farmers and related businesses who are suffering financial hardship due to the current drought.

“Unfortunately, the current drought is particularly severe, causing financial hardship to many,” said John Price, ASIC commissioner. “ASIC is keen to offer whatever assistance we can to ease that burden and ensure that affected people can access resources to assist them during this challenging time.”

Interested parties are required to lodge an application online or via mail, detailing their name and contact details, entity name and ACN or licence number, details of current situation, and evidence supporting the application.

“ASIC may be able to review fees or waive late fees that your company has incurred, or provide alternative payment options for companies affected by the drought and facing financial hardship,” ASIC said in a statement.

For those who wish to access financial counselling, they may visit ASIC’s MoneySmart website, while those struggling with debt can contact the free National Debt Hotline on 1800 007 007.
