Gallagher has been appointed by Transport for NSW to deliver an insurance program for the Stage 2 development of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest scheme, which will provide a 30 kilometre metro line extension between Chatswood and Bankstown.
The insurance program for Australia's biggest public transport project will initially focus on providing contract works (construction), public liability, and delay in start-up (DSU) insurance. The major broker will also provide claims management and advice support throughout the project.
The infrastructure project is set to provide Sydney commuters with seven new stations, five upgraded stations, and 4,000 parking spaces by 2024. It will also introduce an innovative single deck train design that will double the capacity of the metro train.
Roger Irvine, leader of Gallagher’s construction practice, noted that the move to an innovative single deck train design “will bring efficiencies that will drive progress and increased agility for Sydney and NSW’s commuters who are looking to connect with the CBD and other business centres in the region.”
Speaking about the insurance program, he said: “This is by no means a generic insurance placement. The scope of the project and its inherent complexity requires a structured and tailored insurance and risk management approach that the team worked around the clock to develop in collaboration with our international colleagues.”
