Aon has announced a new hire a key promotion for their business in Australia.
The broker has promoted Jeff Smith to the role of executive chairman of One Underwriting and hired Ross Campbell as placement director with Aon Risk Solutions Commercial.
The additions are part of Aon’s wider strategy to bolster its broking business in Australia and James Baum, managing director, broking and chief broking Officer, Pacific for Aon, said that the additions will help the business grow.
“With these positions filled by Jeff and Ross, we have never been better placed to deliver our go-to-market strategy, designed to ensure our colleagues can bring the best risk financing solutions to our clients,” Baum said.
“Jeff is a significant asset to the Aon business after working with Aon and its predecessor companies for over 43 years in numerous roles, the most recent being Placement Director for Aon’s Commercial business. Given Jeff’s knowledge and strategic abilities, we have asked him to lead the continued growth of One Underwriting.
“We are excited to welcome Ross to the Aon team. His position will play a key role in leading broking support for the commercial growth agenda.
“Placement has gone from strength to strength and Ross brings strong commercial and global corporate experience to this leadership position and we look forward to welcoming him into our business and team.
Baum noted that the international brokerage has “significant plans” for the One Underwriting business since its official launch at the turn of the year, and Smith will play a large part in the development of the business.
“Aon has significant plans for the continued growth of One Underwriting across those areas that we believe present the best opportunities for new products, so we can ensure that we help our clients deal with complex risks that may be overlooked in the insurance market.
“Jeff will play a critical role in driving the growth agenda for One Underwriting,” Baum continued.
Campbell will join the business from Willis Towers Watson where he is currently placement director, broking services having joined Willis in 2009.
