The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has slated two pivotal events for 2024: the Allianz Donna Walker Awards and the ANZIIF Diversity and Inclusion Luncheon.
These initiatives reflect ANZIIF's dedication to advancing diversity, inclusion, and professionalism within the insurance realm.
Named in honour of Donna Walker, a notable figure in the insurance industry and a proponent of diversity and inclusion, the Allianz Donna Walker Awards are designed to acknowledge the achievements of individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting diversity and fostering a culture of professionalism in insurance.
Sponsored by Allianz, the awards celebrate excellence in two distinct categories: Inspiring Leadership and Emerging Talent, welcoming nominations from across the industry to spotlight those who lead by example in championing diversity and inclusion.
Allianz managing director Richard Feledy emphasised the importance of nurturing an inclusive culture that not only enhances engagement and innovation but also drives superior business results.
“Donna was Allianz's chief technical officer, but also a champion of diversity and inclusion (D&I) who contributed enormously to the insurance industry,” he said. “At Allianz, we aim to foster a culture of belonging knowing that an inclusive work environment can lead to greater levels of engagement, and diverse perspectives can help support innovation and better business outcomes.
“We are excited to reward aspiring and existing leaders who achieve outstanding D&I results within their team and organisation.”
The winners of the awards will be unveiled at the ANZIIF Diversity and Inclusion Luncheon on May 28, an event that marks a significant occasion for industry leaders to convene and strategise on fostering a more inclusive insurance and finance industry.
ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks, who assumed the position last month, highlighted the luncheon as a crucial platform for discussing the creation of inclusive cultures and the positive impact of such environments on employees and customers alike.
“The ANZIIF Diversity and Inclusion Luncheon is a great opportunity to focus on creating cultures of inclusion and belonging and to acknowledge that active commitments to such cultures make a real difference for our people and our customers,” she said. “There is still some way to go in the insurance industry to achieve gender parity, cultural diversity, and proportional representation of disabled, LGBTQIA+, and Indigenous Australians.
“However, the luncheon is a great forum to hear from an interesting panel, engage in insightful discussions, and share best practices for promoting diversity and inclusion, with the aim of creating a more welcoming and supportive environment for all employees.”
Set to take place in Sydney and available through online channels, the ANZIIF Diversity and Inclusion Luncheon benefits from the support of CHU Underwriting Agencies, serving as the platinum sponsor..
