The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has announced the agenda for its upcoming Reinsurance Rendezvous, scheduled for Oc. 14-16 at Rydges Resort in Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
The three-day event will cover a series of industry challenges under the theme “The Risky Trifecta,” focusing on climate change, artificial intelligence (AI), and concussion in sport.
A session on concussion in sport will be presented as a mock trial to demonstrate how legal and medical issues related to concussion claims are addressed in the courtroom.
The mock trial will include John Edmond, chairman at Gilchrist Connell, serving as judge – with barristers Teni Berberian from 13 Wentworth Chambers and Callan O’Neill from 12 Wentworth Selborne Chambers participating in the case.
A separate panel discussion will cover AI and its implications for insurance.
Rade Musulin, a principal at Finity who recently discussed global insurance challenges with the US Senate Committee on the Budget in Washington, DC – will lead a session on climate change, titled “The Other Climate Risk – Transition, Decarbonisation, and the Economy.”
The session will focus on how the insurance industry is adapting to environmental and economic changes.
ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks said the event aims to provide a platform for professionals to deepen their understanding of critical industry issues.
“This event is designed to help insurance professionals develop their current knowledge base and gain the most up to date industry insights,” she said.
Registration details for the event are available on ANZIIF’s website.
In collaboration with the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA), ANZIIF will also host the 2024 AICLA/ANZIIF Claims Convention on September 26 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.
This event will examine critical issues under the theme “Claims Under the Microscope – Driving Better Outcomes.”
Key topics will include:
Featured speakers include Dr Daniel Mulino, chair of the Standing Committee on Economics in the Federal Parliament, and Emma Curtis, lead ombudsman for insurance at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
The conference will also cover emerging trends, such as climate risks, advances in marine insurance, and new challenges like arson claims.
ANZIIF aims to use this platform to encourage knowledge-sharing and improvements in claims processes across the industry.
