The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has announced that its annual Australian Liability Conference will take place again this year, marking the 17th edition of the event.
Scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Hilton Sydney, the conference will provide industry professionals with updates on key liability trends and risks.
This year’s program includes technical presentations on current developments in the field, covering topics such as artificial intelligence (AI) risks, the rise of class actions, and food safety recalls.
Presentations will address AI’s impact on liability, including deepfakes and other emerging technologies.
The following industry experts have been confirmed as speakers:
ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks emphasised the value of the event, saying: “Staying up to date on the latest industry developments is crucial to ensure the best possible service is being provided to customers.”
Early bird registration is open until Sept. 20. More details, including registration information, are available on ANZIIF’s website.
Before holding the annual Australian Liability Conference, ANZIIF will host this year’s Reinsurance Rendezvous.
This month, ANZIIF has released the agenda for its 2024 Reinsurance Rendezvous, set to take place from Oct. 14-16 at Rydges Resort in Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
The event will focus on three pressing challenges for the insurance and reinsurance sectors: climate change, artificial intelligence (AI), and sports-related concussion claims.
A mock trial will examine concussion in sport, with John Edmond, chairman at Gilchrist Connell, serving as judge. Barristers Teni Berberian and Callan O’Neill will participate, providing a legal perspective on concussion-related claims.
The implications of AI for the insurance industry will also be a focal point. A panel featuring Alex Taylor, global head of emerging technology at QBE Ventures, and Omid Karr, executive manager of advanced analytics at IAG, will discuss how AI is transforming risk assessment and business operations.
Rade Musulin, principal at Finity, will lead a session on climate change risks, focusing on how the insurance sector is adapting to the transition toward decarbonisation and the broader economic impacts of climate change.
In addition to the two events, ANZIIF – in partnership with the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA) – will host the 2024 AICLA/ANZIIF Claims Convention on Sept. 26 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.
The event will explore critical topics under the theme “Claims Under the Microscope – Driving Better Outcomes.”
Presentations will cover the Federal Parliamentary Flood Inquiry, fire hazards related to lithium batteries, environmental claims, and the role of AI in processing insurance claims. The convention will also address emerging trends in marine insurance and challenges posed by arson-related claims.
Speakers include Dr Daniel Mulino, chair of the Standing Committee on Economics, and Emma Curtis, lead ombudsman for insurance at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
The event is designed to foster knowledge-sharing and improve claims management processes across the industry.
