The Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) has welcomed James Allsop, federal court chief justice and architect of the federal court's specialist insurance list, as its inaugural patron.
Angus Kench, AILA national president, said Allsop's “standing, knowledge, and enthusiasm for ensuring further education on insurance and legal issues” makes him ideal for the role.
“His passion for the law and for legal and judicial method is well known,” Kench said. “CJ Allsop is highly regarded for his immense legal ability and his vision for the way courts should operate to fulfil their role as an arm of government and in providing an efficient, accessible judicial system to litigants.”
Kench said Allsop sought to fulfil the federal court's commitment to providing commercial dispute-resolution mechanisms that emphasised flexibility, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
“I look forward to working with AILA to advance the knowledge of insurance law in Australia,” Allsop said.
The new AILA patron will attend the 2018 AILA national conference in Perth on Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 and will present the annual Geoff Masel Memorial Lecture in July.
