AIG settles Bill Cosby defamation case

Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby has taken aim at AIG once again, after the insurance giant settled a defamation case against the actor – without his permission.

Former model Janice Dickinson confirmed late last week that she had received an “epic” settlement to her four-year defamation case.

The case alleged Cosby’s lawyer had defamed Dickinson when he called her a liar after she came forward with claims Cosby drugged and raped her in 1982.

While Dickinson is restricted from sharing details of the case, her lawyer confirmed the settlement was for a “very large” figure.

Dickinson also noted that while the settlement brings a “measure of justice”, nothing can erase her assault by the now-imprisoned comedian.

While Dickinson seemed satisfied with the outcome, the same cannot be said for Cosby. Representatives for the jailed celebrity called AIG the “worst and egregious insurance company in America’s history,” and said it was the third example of the firm “robbing” the convicted criminal of the opportunity to clear his name.

“AIG’s apparent strategy to have Mr. Cosby tried exclusively in the court of public opinion has become clear, and its decision to settle each of these lawsuits over Mr. Cosby’s objections is illustrative of AIG’s bad faith,” read the statement on behalf of Cosby.

“To be clear, AIG’s settlement of this lawsuit has no bearing whatsoever on the merit of Ms. Dickinson’s claims,” it added.
