The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) will feature Dr Jared Orth, senior manager of code compliance at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), as the keynote speaker at the upcoming 2024 General Insurance Breakfast.

The event will take place on Dec. 4 at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park.

Who is Dr Jared Orth?

Orth, who leads AFCA’s efforts to monitor adherence to the General Insurance Code of Practice, will address current trends in code compliance and outline areas where the insurance sector can enhance its practices.

His team supports the General Insurance Code Governance Committee in promoting accountability and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

General Insurance Code of Practice reforms

Commenting on Orth’s role in the event, Katrina Shanks, ANZIIF’s CEO, emphasised the session’s relevance in light of ongoing reforms.

“The General Insurance Code Report recommended significant changes to the current code which will be wide and far reaching. This breakfast session will keep you up to date with what the key recommendations are,” she said.

ANZIIF has expressed support for proposed revisions to the General Insurance Code of Practice, including updates to address key areas, such as financial hardship provisions, assistance for vulnerable customers, extending the code’s application to small businesses, and better alignment with legal requirements. Revisions to claims handling procedures are also under consideration.
