Youi has introduced a camping-focused initiative aimed at enhancing road trip experiences.
Partnering with celebrity chef Steph de Sousa (pictured), the insurer has unveiled “Single Burner,” a series of simple yet creative meal ideas for families traveling and camping this summer.
The recipes are designed to be prepared on a single-burner camping stove, making them accessible for outdoor adventures.
This move aligns with new research conducted by Youi, which found that 57% of Australians plan to embark on a road trip within the next three months. Rising cost-of-living pressures are influencing these decisions, with 35% of respondents citing affordability as a key motivator for choosing road travel over international vacations.
The Single Burner recipe series provides practical solutions for families seeking easy-to-make, flavourful meals while camping.
Chef Steph de Sousa, who developed the recipes, emphasised the importance of convenience and taste in outdoor cooking.
“Off-grid doesn’t have to mean bland or boring when it comes to cooking while on-road,” she said.
She said that the recipes are designed to serve families of four and take as little as 20 minutes to prepare, making it easier for families to enjoy meals together while creating memorable experiences outdoors.
Among the featured recipes are Frying Pan Pizza Pies and S’mores Fondue, which are highlighted in a step-by-step content series available on Youi’s website.
The partnership comes at a time when cost-conscious Australians are rethinking their travel plans.
Youi’s survey revealed that many travellers are adjusting their habits to adapt to economic pressures. While 25% of respondents are opting for closer destinations, road trips remain a popular option due to their affordability, flexibility, and potential for family bonding.
Angela Greenwood, Youi’s chief marketing officer, noted the importance of supporting these shifts with practical resources.
“Here in Australia, we’ve got access to some of the most spectacular sites, and the classic road trip is the perfect way to bring the whole family together to enjoy them,” she said.
While road trips offer flexibility, they also come with potential obstacles. According to Youi’s survey, 75% of respondents faced challenges on their most recent trips, including flat tires, road closures, and extreme weather.
Travelers reported an average expenditure of $1,108 per trip, with fuel and accommodation making up the largest costs.
