Zurich Australia (Zurich) has announced a deal with Tesla that makes it the “preferred” insurer for the American multinational’s electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia. The Tesla website now says that the insurer’s comprehensive motor coverage policy is available through its app.

“EV uptake in Australia is rapidly growing as consumers continue to recognise the importance of lowering their environmental impact,” said Justin Delaney, CEO of Zurich Australia & New Zealand.

Delaney said providing these customers with quality insurance “is critical for supporting the national transition journey.”

Thom Drew, Tesla country director for Australia & New Zealand said the Swiss headquartered global insurer “has a long-standing reputation for protecting its customers in Australia and across the globe.”

According to Zurich’s media release, the firm has served as Tesla’s preferred insurance provider in Switzerland since 2016.

“With shared global strength paired with deep local expertise, this is a natural alignment that will benefit many Australians on our roads,” said Delaney.

According to figures from the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) under 10% of vehicles sold in Australia between January and March this year were EVs. However, the number is rising.
