A specialist insurance law firm has boosted its employment practices liability/management liability (EPL/ML) practice with four new promotions.
Gilchrist Connell has promoted senior associate Rosa Raco, and associates Ellen Davis, Jessica O’Dell, and Laura Gaffey to the national EPL/ML practice group, headed by Joel Zyngier (principal), an accredited workplace relations specialist.
Raco brings to the practice more than nine years of employment law experience, with a sole focus on EPL/ML. The associates, meanwhile, has expertise and practices in various lines of business, particularly in workplace relations and safety law.

Commenting on the group which comprises principals and senior lawyers from all of the firm's five offices across the country, Zyngier said: “It’s exciting to work with such a high calibre and experienced team of lawyers as we respond to the expanding need for our services. We’re seeing increasing requests for assistance from both insurers wanting EPL/ML expertise, and uninsured employers needing workplace relations and safety representation.”
In a statement, firm said there is a rapid and growing shift from traditional industrial disputes to individual employment disputes, particularly general protections applications and discrimination claims.
It also noted an increased appetite for prosecuting employers, creating a riskier and more complex environment for employers and their insurers.
