Gallagher has appointed Mark Oatway, current managing director of corporate broking, into the newly created specialist role of managing director for placement. The new position is focused on placing niche and specialist risks and supporting distressed accounts.

“Mark has led our corporate team since 2014 and has been instrumental in cementing our reputation in the market,” said Sarah Lyons, chief executive for Australia. “Given his long-standing insurer relationships and deep experience in managing complex and harder to place risks, Mark was a natural choice for this role.”

The US-based insurance broker and risk management solutions provider said the move was to best serve some clients who are impacted by hardening market cycle.

“In making this move we are not looking to disrupt our traditional operating model, however,” Lyons said. “Placement remains the role of our brokers, and that is where we will continue to create value and make a difference for clients.”

“Gallagher continues to go from strength to strength, and we’re winning strategic accounts off the back of our strong corporate broking capability,” Oatway said. “Responding to a more challenging market by creating value in this way, is a win-win for clients.”
