Swiss Re has been ranked as the number one life and health reinsurer in Continental Europe for the fifth consecutive year, based on the Business Capability Index (BCI) evaluations by European insurers in the NMG Consulting Life & Health Reinsurance Study 2024.
The ranking reflects feedback from 294 senior executives at 227 insurance companies across Europe, Türkiye, and Israel.
Augusto Diaz-Leante, head of life and health for Continental Europe at Swiss Re, said that the recognition underscores the company’s commitment to client-focused strategies.
He noted that maintaining leadership in markets such as Switzerland, Austria, Israel, and Türkiye, while also gaining top rankings in the Netherlands and Belgium, showcases Swiss Re’s dedication to meeting client needs. Improvements in rankings across France, Germany, Italy, and Spain further highlight the company’s progress in key regions.
The NMG Consulting study, which evaluates reinsurers on factors such as innovation, market knowledge, relationship management, and business capabilities, provides an independent view of industry performance.
“Consistently delivering for our clients year after year requires teamwork across the entire value chain. I am incredibly proud to lead a great team of innovative, talented and motivated professionals across Continental Europe, who are each committed to moving Forward in Life with our clients,” Diaz-Leante said.
Technology and innovation are increasingly important in Continental Europe’s insurance sector, with executives identifying these as key drivers of value. Swiss Re has been recognized for its technological innovation and integration of new data sets into insurance practices.
“We are proud to be supporting our clients in their ongoing digitalization journey. For Swiss Re, this goes hand in hand with the digitalization of underwriting and claims services to improve cost efficiency and accuracy. Not only are we focused on delivering the best tools and solutions for clients, but also gaining an understanding of the true drivers of business performance,” Diaz-Leante said.
Diaz-Leante highlighted Swiss Re’s expertise in product development and underwriting excellence is another key differentiator. Backed by 160 years of industry experience, the company continues to provide tools such as Magnum and Life Guide, including the recently introduced Life Guide Scout, a generative AI-powered underwriting assistant.
“At Swiss Re, we understand that clients value our expertise in product design, pricing and claims management, and are continuously pushing ahead with modern, customized products to deliver on our promise,” he said.
Regulation also remains a central concern for insurance executives across the region, influencing both product development and industry practices. Diaz-Leante acknowledged the challenges faced by clients in this environment and emphasized Swiss Re’s role in delivering solutions that balance affordability and effectiveness for consumers while meeting commercial requirements.
“Value-added services play a key role in increasing the attractiveness of products and meeting diverse consumer needs,” he said.
Swiss Re’s sustained leadership is attributed to the collective efforts of its team members, including underwriters, actuaries, client managers, claims assessors, and other specialists involved in the client journey.
“While we appreciate this feedback, we know that we must continue to improve as a team, ensuring our processes are even easier and faster for clients while leveraging key technologies to achieve this,” he said.
