Markel Group has appointed Isaac Meek (pictured above) to the position of cyber senior underwriter for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Before his engagement with Markel, Meek was employed at the American International Group (AIG). He began his career there as an assistant underwriter and was promoted to underwriter in 2021. During his five-year tenure at AIG, he focused on underwriting risks across various financial lines, including professional indemnity (PI) and directors and officers.
His area of expertise was blended cyber and tech PI risks, catering to customers in the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) countries, North Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
In his new role, Meek will collaborate with Priyesh Pradhan, professional and financial risk (PFR) senior underwriter at Markel India. Together, they will focus on expanding Markel's cyber insurance capabilities not only in the MENA region but also across the Asia-Pacific area. Meek's responsibilities will also include strengthening broker relationships and identifying opportunities for scalability within the MENA market.
This move signifies Markel's sustained efforts to attract experienced underwriting professionals, aiming to enhance its insurance offerings in the MENA region. The recruitment aligns with Markel's broader strategy to expedite growth throughout Asia.
Meek will be based in Markel's Dubai office and will report directly to Max Robbie, senior executive officer at Markel Dubai.
“With his wealth of experience, Isaac will help us to identify new territories and geographies to drive profitable growth for the cyber portfolio, with the support of our established cyber underwriting teams in India and Singapore. I look forward [to] working with him so that we can continue strengthening our business in the region, offering clients tailored and bespoke products across MENA,” Robbie said.
In other news for the specialty firm, Bob Cox, president and chief operating officer of global insurance operations at Markel, is leaving the business at the end of the year.
