MS Amlin’s interim chief information officer (CIO) and former chief operating officer (COO), Piyush Patel, will be leaving the company, according to a report.
The specialist re/insurer, which is owned by Japan’s Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, has decided to hire a CIO in a permanent capacity, re-insurance.com reported. As such, Patel will depart from MS Amlin by the end of the first quarter of 2019.
Patel was hired by MS Amlin in 2009, and became interim CIO in 2010. In 2014, he was appointed COO, a role which later went to Simon Smith, who joined from Willis Towers Watson earlier this year. Patel will work closely with MS Amlin’s head of IT to ensure a smooth transition, the report said.
Prior to MS Amlin, Patel worked for technology and risk management consultancy Accenture for almost two decades.
The company is in a state of reorganisation, under new CEO Simon Beale, who came onboard following the retirement of his predecessor Charles Philipps.
“As MS Amlin continues to take steps towards repositioning the business for the future, we have decided the time is right to bring new, permanent leadership to the IT function,” a spokesperson for MS Amlin said.
“Our interim CIO, Piyush Patel, will remain with MS Amlin until the end of Q1 2019, and will be involved in the process to identify his successor. Piyush has done a fantastic job in ensuring continuity over the past four months and we wish him well for the future following his nine years with the business.”
