Manulife Hong Kong has appointed Carrie Tong (pictured above) as head of its Macau branch, in addition to her current role as chief strategy officer for Hong Kong and Macau.
Manulife said that Tong's appointment comes as part of its growth push in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and thrust to develop homegrown talent to bolster its leadership. Tong will assume her expanded responsibilities on Jan. 1, subject to regulatory approval.
As head of the Macau branch, Tong will oversee its operations and will be responsible for leading Manulife’s growth ambitions across the GBA region, of which both Hong Kong and Macau are an important part. She will continue to report to Damien Green, CEO of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau.
“Our Macau branch has grown rapidly to become an important part of our future growth plans,” Green said. “With Carrie’s appointment as head of Macau branch, we will be better positioned to support our distribution channels whilst adding more ambition, investment, and structure to our Macau business strategy.”
Tong joined Manulife Asia in 2015 as co-head of strategy and corporate development for Asia. She was appointed as chief strategy officer for Hong Kong and Macau in 2020 and has since overseen several successful projects in relation to the company's ongoing investments in ramping up its agency and business footprint.
Prior to Manulife, Tong worked at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Bain & Company and Willis Towers Watson.
