In a move to encourage water conservation and protect homes from water damage, Mercury Insurance has announced an expanded collaboration with smart water loss prevention technology provider Flume.
During Fix a Leak Week from March 18, Mercury is offering policyholders an opportunity to purchase the Flume product at a 25% reduction off the standard retail price. For homeowners in certain states, Mercury is providing insurance premium discounts to those who install Flume, maintaining the lower rates for as long as the devices remain in use.
Adam Bakonis, senior product manager at Mercury, emphasized the value of the tie-up, saying: “We are excited to continue this partnership with Flume. Water leaks are the leading cause of non-weather-related homeowner losses. Saving our customers money while providing them multiple layers of protection means we are doing our job.”
At the center of the initiative is the Flume Smart Home Water Monitor, which is compatible with approximately 95% of US residential water meters. Installation is straightforward, requiring about 10 minutes to set up, after which the device begins its work. It monitors household water usage, alerting homeowners to any leaks via smartphone notifications, which can significantly mitigate potential water damage.
Statistics from Flume indicate that within the first month of use, 70% of its users discover a leak, with 10% uncovering leaks that equate to over 90 gallons of wasted water daily. Beyond leak detection, the Flume app offers comprehensive water usage insights, both indoors and outdoors, employing real-time alerts and machine learning to optimize water efficiency and management for homeowners.
To participate in the savings opportunity, homeowners are encouraged to visit flumewater.com/mercury for details. Additionally, potential buyers can explore water district rebates at flumewater.com/rebate before making a purchase.
Mercury’s insurance policy discounts for Flume device installations are currently available to homeowners (HO-3 policies) in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia, with California policyholders eligible for discounts on policies effective from December 15, 2023.
