New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is thinking about securing an insurance policy for over $100 million in injury protection, sources say.
The NFL player will reportedly acquire insurance if he does not reach a contract extension with the team before the regular season begins.

Sources close to the matter told Yahoo Sports that Beckham’s camp considered injury insurance prior to Monday, when the player suffered a severely sprained ankle in a preseason game.
“[If a deal isn’t done] by the regular season, he’ll take steps to protect himself. [But] a new deal is preferable to adding insurance,” a source said.
According to sources, a one-season insurance policy worth more than $100 million would likely cost Beckham over $600,000 – depending on the specifics of the coverage.
Beckham, one of the game’s most popular players, could land a record-breaking wideout contract topping $100 million. One of the other sources said that the player will “take steps to protect himself” if he is unable to get a new contract with the Giants, but Beckham prefers an extension.
Beckham aims to be the highest-paid NFL player. Although Giants co-owner John Mara has expressed interest in re-signing Beckham, he has not confirmed when it will happen.
“There’s no reason to rush into this,” Mara told NJ Advance Media late last month. “He’s going to get paid a lot of money at the appropriate time. You can argue that the appropriate time is now, but you can argue both sides of that, I guess. It will happen when it happens.”
