Markel has appointed Stacey Hinton (pictured) as senior underwriter and head of jewelers block within the specie team with immediate effect. As jewelers block head, Hinton will oversee the growth and profitability of Markel’s international jewelers block portfolio.
Hinton’s responsibilities will include building and sustaining relationships with brokers and clients, as well as collaborating closely with the broader specie team and other divisions to implement the company’s jewelers block underwriting strategy.
The senior underwriter is also tasked with enhancing underwriting processes to ensure continuous improvement. Hinton will be based in London and report to Markel specie head Rob Ashby.
Hinton brings nearly two decades of experience in the insurance sector to Markel, including a recent role as head of specie at Convex Insurance.
Before her time at Convex, she held various underwriting positions, including specie underwriter, at Fidelis Insurance and Starstone Insurance. Hinton’s career began in 2006 at Tysers, with subsequent posts at Arch Insurance and Ocaso Insurance.
Ashby commented: “Companies involved in the jewelery trade currently face a range of evolving risks, including increased theft and burglary owing to challenging economic conditions.
“More than ever, these challenges underscore the need for businesses to partner with insurers who understand their industry and their operations, which can also offer bespoke and dynamic coverage solutions.”
He added: “I’m therefore delighted to welcome Stacey to the team at Markel. With close to 20 years’ experience – the vast majority gained in specie underwriting roles – she adds a significant amount of experience to an already well-established team.
“I’m confident that her depth of knowledge and industry network will significantly add to the team's capabilities, enabling us to offer an even more superior service to clients and brokers and further strengthening our position as a leader in jewelers block insurance.”
