Gigasure, an insurtech platform, has announced its official launch with travel, backpackers, and car hire excess insurance.
The platform allows travellers to customise their insurance plans to suit their specific needs, which the insurtech says offers a departure from traditional, one-size-fits-all policies.
Through its app, Gigasure policyholders can their coverage by adding or removing benefits according to their needs and budgets. The platform also provides on-demand boosts for customisation while travelling and real-time support for flight and baggage delays.
Gigasure’s launch also comes at a time when interest in travel is increasing. Research indicates that 66% of travellers are more interested in travel now than before the COVID-19 pandemic, and 64% of global travellers plan to cut other areas of spending to prioritise leisure travel.
According to the Chartered Insurance Institute, 25% of insurance claims over the last five years were for flight delays, and 31% were for baggage claims.
As a response to this, Gigasure has introduced GigaShield, providing real-time payouts for flight delays and baggage loss, along with VIP airport lounge passes depending on the level of cover. This service aims to offer immediate support and build brand loyalty and trust.
Ernesto Suarez (pictured above), CEO of Gigasure, has introduced the company to the market after securing seed funding from private investors. Suarez, who previously founded Halo, brings his experience to this new venture. Halo was acquired by Zurich Insurance and Cover More Group in 2017.
“For so many people, insurance is something they buy and forget about until something goes wrong,” Suarez said. “We want to change that. In an increasingly uncertain world where people are looking for everyday security and reassurance, our personalised insurance offers exactly that.
“Gigasure provides new features, flexibility, and seamless claims through our app, giving customers complete control over their insurance, wherever they are in the world. Gigasure's launch represents a new era in insurance, where technology empowers consumers to shape their own protection.”.
