Jason Whelan (pictured) has been picked to serve as managing director of Zurich Insurance Group’s Dublin-based Cover-More Blue Insurance Services Limited, which used to be known as Blue Insurance Limited.
Cover-More Blue’s beginnings date back to 2003. The business rebranded last year after joining the Cover-More Group in 2018. Operating across Ireland and the UK, Cover-More Blue offers travel, car hire excess, pet, and gadget cover through brands such as blueinsurance.ie, Multitrip.com, Carhireexcess.com, Gadgetinsurance.com, and Petinsurance.ie, as well as via distribution partners.
Whelan, who has been with the company in various capacities for nearly two decades, has served as chief product officer for Cover-More in Europe since 2022 – a role he will maintain alongside his new duties as Cover-More Blue managing director. Whelan reports to Cover-More Europe chief executive Donna Dorairajoo.
As MD, Whelan will be tasked with shaping the Irish unit’s strategy, driving growth through partnerships and consumer-facing websites, and further strengthening the business’s core capabilities as it continues to expand within Ireland and the European Economic Area.
“I’m thrilled to lead Cover-More Blue and our fantastic award-winning team as we expand our presence in Ireland and across Europe,” he commented.
“Our focus will continue to be on delivering exceptional service and innovative products to our valued customers and partners in the travel industry. We are well poised to deploy our established skills and expertise in product, pricing, and underwriting to achieve our ambitious growth plans.”
Meanwhile Dorairajoo noted: “Jason has been an integral member of the management team since the early days of the business and has played a critical role in the integration of Blue Insurance into the Cover-More Group.
“He has many years of experience in the Irish insurance market and is well known within the travel industry, making him the obvious choice to take on this role. I’m looking forward to Jason’s continued success.”
