Simply Business, a digital insurance broker serving small businesses and landlords, has announced the appointment of Julie Fisher (pictured above) as its new UK CEO.

Fisher, who had been serving as interim CEO, takes the position as the company announces that it is embarking on its next phase of growth.

Fisher joined Simply Business as chief commercial officer (CCO) in 2019, bringing over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, including leadership roles at Churchill, RBS, and MoneySuperMarket.

In her role as CCO, she played a key part in expanding Simply Business’s panel of insurers to 35 leading brands globally, providing increased choice for small business and landlord customers.

During Fisher’s tenure, Simply Business says that it has more than doubled its customer base, surpassing one million customers worldwide this year. She has also overseen several digital initiatives aimed at enhancing the customer claims experience as part of the company’s broader mission to simplify insurance for small businesses and landlords.

The company’s growth has also been supported by an expanding range of insurance products, including commercial combined, contractors combined, and commercial vehicle insurance. These offerings aim to serve a greater proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through its digital platform.

David Summers, group CEO at Simply Business, welcomed Fisher’s appointment, noting the company’s ongoing focus on providing choice and value in the SME insurance market. He highlighted Fisher’s leadership as a key factor in driving the company’s next steps.

“I’m delighted with Julie’s appointment at such an exciting point in our journey,” Summers said. “Julie’s leadership will be invaluable as we deliver on our commitment to offer the broadest range of choice in this market and deliver products known for their value – all with a level of simplicity, ease, and speed.”

Fisher expressed her enthusiasm for the role, citing her pride in leading a team dedicated to supporting small businesses and landlords. She emphasised the importance of technology and industry expertise in the company’s approach to meeting customer needs.

“Simply Business is leading the way in making it easier for small businesses and landlords to find and buy their insurance online,” Fisher said. “We believe the UK’s 5.5 million small businesses – and the innovative, inspiring people behind them – deserve the best, and I’m determined to see us continue to protect and support their success in the years to come.”
