The Bermuda Captive Network (BCN) has announced the sudden death of Leslie Robinson, former chair of the Bermuda Captive Conference and a senator, at the age of 57.

Robinson, a senior vice president and head of underwriting and claims at WTW’s Bermuda office since 2018, previously held a role with the Bermuda Monetary Authority and brought over 33 years of experience in Bermuda’s financial services sector.

The BCN described Robinson as a committed advocate for Bermuda’s captive insurance industry, noting that her influence extended far beyond her professional work. The organization highlighted that Robinson’s passing leaves a considerable impact on her colleagues, friends, and the industry network, both locally and internationally.

Robinson was appointed to Bermuda’s Senate two years ago by Premier David Burt, serving as Junior Minister of Economy, Labor, and Public Works. Known for her focus on social equity and economic reform, she used her Senate platform to advocate for underrepresented communities.

The Royal Gazette remarked on her commitment to improving the lives of Bermudians and fostering opportunities for families, young people, and the economically disadvantaged.

In her role as senator, Robinson supported policies aimed at economic inclusion, education, healthcare access, and small business growth, particularly for women- and minority-owned enterprises. Her initiatives contributed to Bermuda’s broader goals of building a more equitable society.

Premier David Burt expressed his condolences, stating that Bermuda has lost a “qualified professional” who embraced public service alongside a demanding private-sector career. He noted her dedication and selflessness in answering the call to serve her community.

In addition to her roles in insurance and government, Robinson was a founding member of WeSpeak, an organization dedicated to empowering young women in leadership and public speaking.

The BCN paid tribute to Robinson, stating that she was a “beloved member of our community and a true champion for the Bermuda captive industry.”

The organization emphasized her lasting influence and deep dedication to her role, adding that her unexpected passing was a profound loss to the industry and her colleagues.

Robinson is survived by her family and a wide network of friends and colleagues.
