Sompo International expands UK commercial P&C insurance unit with double hire

Sompo International has added two senior middle market hires to its UK commercial property & casualty insurance unit.

Joining from RSA and Travelers, respectively, are Jon Pope (pictured left) and Toby Harris (pictured right). The latter will serve as technology head for middle market insurance, while Pope is assuming the position of middle market insurance head for the London region.

“As Sompo International continues advancing its global footprint and capabilities in the commercial P&C (re)insurance market, we are extending our insurance offerings to mid-sized business across the UK,” Joe Brown, UK middle market & small business underwriting leader, said in an emailed release.

“I am pleased to welcome Jon and Toby to the middle market team, and I look forward to working with them as we deepen relationships with our broker partners and clients to provide solutions that align with their needs.”

Harris, who most recently was technology practice leader for Europe, brings more than three decades of industry experience to Sompo International. His credentials include time spent at AIG and Chubb. Meanwhile Pope, a Hiscox alumnus, has over 16 years of insurance experience, including his latest role as lead casualty trading underwriter.

Earlier this month, Sompo International became a partner of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association.
