After surveying thousands of customers and analysing nearly 80 policies, Which? has named only one recommended provider for home insurance in the UK.
“Providers that are rated highly by customers who have recently claimed – and which also offer reliable cover as standard – receive our Which? Recommended Provider (WRP) award,” said the consumer advocate. “This year, only NFU Mutual made the cut – although Direct Line and LV= weren’t far off.”

Which? noted: “The top-scoring providers will be awarded Which? Recommended Provider status if they have met certain conditions: be regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority; be available to the public; have received responses from 30 or more customers in our customer survey; must achieve a high score in our customer satisfaction survey; must also achieve average or above policy scores for buildings and contents; [and] must also achieve an average or better claims score.”
Meanwhile, an earlier WRP listing for car insurance ranked NFU Mutual among the awardees. The recommended car insurers are LV=, NFU Mutual, Direct Line, Churchill, and Aviva.
Commenting on both awards, NFU Mutual’s incoming customer services director Rachel Kelsall said: “As a leading mutual insurer, we stand up for our members and what matters most to them, not shareholders. We are delighted that this commitment to excellent service has once again been recognised by customers and independent experts.”
