Pen Underwriting has announced the appointment of Megan Jones as its capacity relationship manager effective January 2, 2024.

Jones joined Pen’s Manchester Underwriting Management business in October 2022, starting out as a specialist commercial lines underwriter looking after the renewal of some of Pen’s largest and most complex UK clients. She is now the senior professional indemnity (PI) underwriter for UK PI at Pen.

In her new role, Jones will take responsibility for the strategic and operational management of each capacity partnership underpinning Pen’s five key underwriting divisions, splitting her time between London and Leeds. She will also be responsible for the cultivation of new capacity relationships to support Pen’s business lines.

According to a news release, Jones brings to the role a decade of expertise in technical underwriting in a wide range of insurance products, from the more traditional end of commercial property and professional risks to emerging sectors, such as cyber, technology and media. Moreover, she has a strong track record in achieving profitable account growth, winning and retaining business, and developing underwriting talent.

“Effective capacity management is pivotal to Pen achieving its growth ambitions, both by looking after our long-term strategic partners and developing valuable new relationships. We have a vibrant UK MGA market right now – one where we are seeing new potential capacity emerge, including more US insurers looking to branch into the UK, as well as long-term partnerships commit to multi-year renewals,” said Stewart Gardiner, technical underwriting director at Pen Underwriting.

“Megan’s credentials and consistency, in delivering impressive underwriting growth and technical excellence, lend themselves brilliantly to the key role of capacity relationship management. We’re delighted she is taking on this important position within the business and building her career within Pen.”

“This is an exciting time to be moving into capacity management, especially in an MGA as large and ambitious as Pen. Capacity will always be a demanding and dynamic area to work in, where you have to work hard to secure strong relationships and deliver mutually beneficial results. But I’m looking forward to the challenge and getting to know and supporting all our partners,” said Jones.
