Devonshire Underwriting, a managing general agent (MGA) specialising in transactional risk insurance, has appointed Robin Muir (pictured above) as head of contingent risks, effective immediately.

Muir joins the company from law firm Jones Day, where he trained as a solicitor and worked as an associate in restructuring and litigation matters for more than seven years.

His role at Devonshire Underwriting will focus on strengthening the firm’s contingent risk insurance offering, particularly in corporate restructuring.

The appointment brings Devonshire Underwriting’s total headcount to 10. Devonshire said that Muir will contribute to the firm’s development of its contingent risk insurance product and will work closely with clients to support their risk management needs.

James Dodd, partner at Devonshire Underwriting, said the addition of a dedicated head of contingent risks would improve client service across all fronts.

“Appointing a dedicated head of contingent risks will enable us to better serve our clients, streamline response times, and deliver tailored quotes more efficiently. Our contingent risk insurance product has seen an excellent start in its first nine months, with five significant deals already underwritten. Robin’s extensive experience in restructuring positions us perfectly to adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of contingent risk insurance,” Dodd said.

As he takes on the new role, Muir said the firm’s approach and flexibility make it well-positioned to meet market demand.

“The expertise of the team, combined with the agility of the business, makes it the perfect environment to deliver the tailored solutions the market is increasingly demanding. During my time in private practice, I often wondered why insurance products weren’t deployed to address contingent risks commonly emerging from restructuring situations,” Muir said.

Devonshire Underwriting launched its contingent risk insurance offering in response to growing demand for structured solutions in complex transactions. Muir noted that it aims to develop its capabilities in this space as it approaches its first anniversary.
