The Insurance Museum, a charitable incorporated organisation, has launched the fourth and final gallery in its “Fire! Risk & Revelations” exhibition.
Called “250 Years of Insurance Fire Brigades,” the last gallery in the online series looks at the impact James Braidwood and the London Fire Engine Establishment had on the history of firefighting. It is going live this morning, October 25.
“It is wonderful that we now have all four galleries telling the story of fire insurance, stretching from the creation of Nicholas Barbon’s innovative fire insurance company, to the handing over of the fire brigades to municipal organisations 250 years later,” Insurance Museum director Howard Benge said in an emailed release.
“This is only the beginning for the Insurance Museum, as we fundraise to produce more online exhibitions, schools’ resources, and a physical museum in the heart of London’s insurance district.”
The fourth gallery was sponsored by Velonetic, formerly known as the London Market Joint Ventures.
Meanwhile the completion of “Fire! Risk & Revelations” coincides with the Insurance Museum Concert. Celebrating the centenary of the Insurance Orchestral Society, tonight’s event will be preceded by a drinks reception led by Insurance Museum chair Reg Brown. The concert will feature the London Phoenix Orchestra.
