Specialist insurer Ecclesiastical has announced a new partnership with Clear Councils, a Chartered insurance brokerage, marking a significant addition to its schemes portfolio. According to a news release, the collaboration, set to launch in early 2025, aims to bolster Ecclesiastical’s efforts to expand its business and enhance offerings for local councils and charities.

Clear Councils, with over 50 years of experience, provides comprehensive insurance solutions to more than 2,000 local councils across the UK. Its coverage includes public and employers’ liability, officials’ indemnity, legal expenses, and property damage. As a partner of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), Clear Councils also offers risk management resources to help councils proactively address potential risks.

In addition to council insurance, Clear Councils extends its expertise to charities and voluntary organisations through its parent company, Clear Insurance Management. The brokerage delivers tailored coverage, such as trustee indemnity, cyber insurance, and buildings insurance, for both small and large charitable entities.

Chris Withers, schemes and partnerships director at Ecclesiastical Insurance, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “We pride ourselves on building a mutually beneficial relationship between insurer and broker, providing high-quality service in the process and Clear have shown they have that same commitment to quality that we have.”

This collaboration follows Ecclesiastical’s 2023 acquisition of Clear Group-owned Brokerbility’s Bricks and Mortar scheme and supports the insurer’s ambitious goal of doubling its business by 2026. The news release highlighted that Ecclesiastical has identified the schemes market as a key area for growth, with this partnership representing the first of several planned initiatives.

Philip Williams, chief operating officer for The Clear Group, expressed enthusiasm about the alignment of values between the two organisations: “Aligned in our people-first cultures, the choice to partner with Ecclesiastical felt natural. We are passionate and proud to support local councils and charities across the nation, and this relationship will see us go from strength to strength alongside a team of like-minded individuals.”
