The insurer is donating a total of £50,000 – with each beneficiary receiving an amount between £500 and £3,000 – to 37 sports clubs nominated by its brokers. In addition to the funding, each sports club will also receive a package of sports equipment from Allianz.
This is the second round of Allianz’s Sport Fund, which was launched in March. Earlier this year, the insurer had donated another £50,000 to 42 sports clubs.
The first round of donation recipients were announced in late July; Allianz brokers were then invited to nominate a local sports club for the donation campaign’s second round until August 02.
The donation “means a lot to the club,” said Emma Samways – director of Westbury RFC, one of the recipients of the donation.
“We are introducing a new walking rugby team for those who can no longer play full contact sport,” said Samways. “We believe that having these tops at the launch of the team will show to the community how committed we are as a club to providing an accessible rugby team.”
For Linda Clarke-Irons, player-coach of Scarboccia, the Allianz donation will be used for venue costs, allowing the club “to provide Boccia and inclusive sports.”
“We are the only club on the Yorkshire coast that provide disability sport and we know that playing sport improves a person’s well-being,” Clarke-Irons added.
“Brokers have great local connections and we are very happy to support their local communities through sport,” said Allianz Insurance head of brand and social responsibility Carolyn Rich. “We hope people enjoy their time at these local sports clubs, which so often provide not just activities but a space for the whole community.”
Allianz announced in a release that the Sports Fund will return and re-open for applications in 2022.
“We look forward to the next round of applications to hear from our broker partners about the great work these grass roots clubs are doing,” commented Rich.
