Ladbrook Insurance, a Derbyshire-based specialist charity broker, has been acquired by Access Insurance, becoming part of the Benefact Group.
The move marks Access Insurance’s fourth acquisition as it continues to expand its presence in the UK charity insurance sector. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Access, which joined the Benefact Group in early 2024, has grown significantly over the past two decades, now employing more than 60 staff and serving 18,000 clients, primarily charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups. The company’s expansion aligns with Benefact Group’s model of donating all available profits to charitable causes.
Simon Hickman, CEO and founder of Access Insurance, described the acquisition as a key step in the company’s long-term strategy.
“Acquiring Ladbrook Insurance is a key milestone in our growth strategy over the next five years and reflects our appetite for growth,” said Simon Hickman, CEO and founder of Access Insurance. “With increasing consumer duty requirements, we are open to further opportunities to acquire books of charity clients that align with our expertise in the third sector.”
He added that the acquisition provides Access with a new base in Derbyshire, benefiting staff and clients in the North.
Ladbrook and Access share a focus on supporting charities and community organisations, with both companies advising on risk management in the sector.
Ladbrook CEO Tim Larden (pictured above) said joining a larger group would bring advantages to clients while supporting Access’s growth plans.
“I am pleased that Ladbrook is becoming part of a larger group which prides itself in educating and advising charities on managing risk and am excited about the additional benefits it will bring to our own client base as well as jumping into helping Access achieve ambitious growth goals,” he said.
As part of the deal, Larden takes on the role of sales & marketing director at Access Insurance.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, Larden previously led Ladbrook for a decade and held roles at Endsleigh Insurance Service, where he focused on third-sector and commercial property products.
Hickman said Larden’s appointment would help drive business development and marketing efforts.
“We are delighted to have Tim join the board from Ladbrook, bringing with him a wealth of commercial sales and marketing experience to this new role. This will bring added focus to our growth in the Third Sector,” he said.
