Insurance provider Thomas Miller is looking to expand its marine portfolio with a key acquisition – swooping for international marine consultancy, Brookes Bell. The move comes just days after it was revealed that
Thomas Miller is in negotiations for another P&I business.
Described as a “marine technical and surveying consultancy”, Brookes Bell has offices in London, Liverpool, Glasgow and overseas. It has served the marine and energy industries since 1903 and focuses on a host of specialist services including casualty investigation, scientific cargo expertise, expert witness services, salvage and wreck removal operations and emergency response. A release noted that the firm is also renowned for its research and development of ship design, with Hugo Wynn Williams, chairman of Thomas Miller, believing it can greatly support the insurer’s marine operations.
“Brookes Bell’s long-recognised expertise across international marine and energy markets will make an excellent and complementary addition to the Thomas Miller Group,” he said.
Meanwhile, Colin Kershaw, a managing partner at Brookes Bell, outlined that the two companies share values and that the firm should be able to grow further as a result of the acquisition.
“Brookes Bell will continue to operate independently, with no changes to our brand or operational structure, to provide independent and highly respected expert consultancy services to new and existing clients while, crucially, having access to investment to expand,” he said.
