Global insurance provider Sompo has unveiled its new marine insurance proposition that extends coverage beyond London to regions throughout the UK.

The group’s marine cargo UK policy offers all-risks coverage without the use of institute cargo clauses, ensuring that clients are automatically covered unless exclusions are explicitly outlined. Additionally, the policy consolidates all coverage details into a single document.

The transport & logistics UK offering, meanwhile, is a bundled single-wording solution spanning freight liability; employers liability; public, products, and pollution liability; and property (for material damage and business interruption).

Both offerings feature up to US$50 million in coverage.

Responsible for the regional marine insurance lines are head of retail marine cargo UK regions Diane Blyth (pictured right) and head of retail transport & logistics UK regions Jon Clare (pictured left), both of whom report to head of aviation, energy & marine Paul Ashworth, who at the same time oversees Sompo’s marine business in London.

Commenting on the launch, Sompo UK chief executive for commercial property & casualty insurance Bob Thaker stated: “We are constantly looking at ways to adapt our business model to ensure we provide the very best service and experience possible to brokers and clients right across the UK.

“By increasing capacity and establishing an outstanding team of regionally-based underwriters, our new proposition expands the offering we currently provide in London so we can now also cater for growing regional demand to write directly marine cargo and transport & logistics policies.”

The CEO added: “Both have been developed to be as simple as possible and are underwritten by our highly experienced team of marine specialists to eliminate uncertainty and ensure peace of mind for our clients.”

Sompo underwrites hull, specie, and marine liability risks through its London office.
