It looks like industry veteran Tony Baker can’t just leave it all behind – stepping down as loss prevention director of North P&I Club at the end of the month but coming back in August in a part-time capacity.

Baker, who joined North in 1999, has led the loss prevention department since 2004. He has expanded the team’s remit to include targeted loss prevention support, as well as more direct assistance to the Club’s members worldwide.

In addition, Baker has represented the marine insurer at the International Group of P&I Clubs.

“It has been a privilege to work for North, and I am especially proud of the dedicated and talented loss prevention team and the way it continually develops and expands its range of innovative products and services to support North’s members,” said the outgoing loss prevention director.

The industry veteran – who spent several years at sea and also taught maritime studies at South Tyneside College before coming onboard North – will be working on a range of loss prevention projects when he returns on a part-time basis two months from now.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tony for his service and commitment over the past 19 years,” commented North chief executive Paul Jennings. “He has been an extremely valuable member of the team, and I am pleased that he is continuing to work with North’s loss prevention team on a part-time basis.”

Deputy director Colin Gillespie will head the department starting July 01, while Alvin Forster and Simon MacLeod are being promoted to deputy directors.
