HDI Global SE has appointed Hannah Brooke (pictured) as head of marine cargo underwriting for the UK and Ireland, effective January 1, 2025.

Brooke will report directly to Antonia Osborne, director of underwriting – commercial. According to a news release, Brooke’s responsibilities will include spearheading the company’s growth initiatives and strategic planning for the marine cargo division, with a focus on integrated services such as risk engineering, insurance coverage, and claims management.

Previously serving in senior positions in international marine insurance markets, Brooke transitions from HDI’s operations in Belgium. She brings substantial expertise in marine insurance, with a background spanning hull, machinery, and cargo sectors, noted the news release.

In a statement, Osborne expressed enthusiasm for Brooke’s appointment: “I am delighted to welcome Hannah to the team to drive forward one of our core lines of business as we gear up for growth in 2025 and beyond. Hannah brings a huge amount of industry and insurance experience, and her relocation from our office in Belgium is testament to the global opportunities within HDI and our drive to retain the best talent.”

The company now has a presence in over 175 countries and employs approximately 5,000 people. In 2023, it reported gross revenue of €9.1 billion. It is part of the Talanx Group.

HDI Global reported strong revenue growth and improved profitability for the first nine months of 2024. Insurance revenue increased 11% to €7.3 billion, while operating profit rose to €479 million, up from €293 million the previous year. The combined ratio improved to 90.5%.
