Ardonagh Advisory’s Geo Underwriting is snapping up Zurich UK’s marine insurance brand Navigators & General (N&G).

The acquisition, expected to be finalised in the second half of 2024, will see N&G’s specialised team, currently based in Brighton, come on board Geo Underwriting. The established portfolio of business will continue to operate under the Navigators & General brand while collaborating with Geo Marine.

Set up by Merchant Navy officer and World War I veteran Captain William Coombs in 1921, N&G offers coverage for various vessels and commercial marine trades such as marinas, boat builders, and hire fleets. N&G serves a wide customer base that includes both consumers and intermediaries.

“Navigators & General is a hugely successful brand with a rich heritage,” noted Jaime Swindle (pictured), chief executive of Geo Underwriting.

“The business will highly complement our marine specialism and expand our product and proposition to new and existing customers. We’re looking forward to welcoming the expert team in Navigators & General and together seizing the opportunities ahead of us.”

Meanwhile, Zurich UK retail head David Nichols commented: “We carefully selected Geo to acquire N&G as they share the same values as Zurich and are a perfect partner to build a successful future, unlocking the full potential of the brand.

“Overall, they will give N&G the focus and investment it deserves, adding an even greater depth of experience and expertise to existing and future customers of the business.”

Nichols added that the acquisition would enhance Geo Underwriting’s current operations and create new avenues for growth and innovation, benefiting both the N&G brand and its workforce.

Geo Underwriting is part of Ardonagh Advisory, the SME broking platform of The Ardonagh Group. The division also consists of Bravo Networks, Footman James, Hera Indemnity, Lorega, Towergate, Towergate Health & Protection, Thompson & Bryan, and Usay Compare brands.
