If its latest move is anything to go by, it looks like global law firm Clyde & Co has its priorities straight – expanding further in Europe’s biggest economy which happens to be a massively significant market for its clientele.
After recruiting four marine partners from Ince & Co, the UK-headquartered legal services provider – whose expertise includes insurance – has now opened a second German office. The expansion also sees 16 associates come onboard the new Hamburg location.
“Hiring this top team and the opening of our second office in Germany is in line with our long established strategy of hiring the best lawyers across our core sectors in the geographies where our clients need us,” said Clyde & Co senior partner Simon Konsta.
“Germany is a hugely important market for our clients and is the biggest economy in Europe, so we are excited about building on the success of our Dusseldorf office and our growing continental offering.”
The new partners are Daniel Jones, Dr Volker Lücke, Dr Tim Schommer, and Dr Eckehard Volz. Jones specialises in shipbuilding, charterparty, yachting, and trading disputes; Lücke in insurance claims and contractual issues; Schommer in shipbuilding, ship repair, yachting, and international trade; and Volz in admiralty law, marine insurance claims, and large-scale energy & offshore projects.
“This close knit team are one of the top marine groups in Germany and give us a strong presence in a key European shipping hub, which is a major centre for owners, operators, trading houses, and marine insurers,” said Andrew Preston, partner and member of the global management board at Clyde & Co.
“They differentiate themselves from their competitors in Germany and northern Europe, thanks to the diversity of their service offering across the sector and associated fields, including trade, energy, and offshore work.”
Founded in 1933 in London, Clyde & Co has 10 offices in the UK as well as two in France and one in Spain, in addition to the two in Germany. Its network of offices and associated offices also spans Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the Americas. The latest addition opened on February 01.
