Specialist marine managing general agent Amphitrite Underwriting London has formed a cargo division to be led by Scott Sykes (pictured).
The new division head joins the London office from Singapore, where he spent the last 14 years. Sykes most recently led Argenta Underwriting Pte Ltd at Lloyd’s Asia. He brings more than 35 years of Lloyd’s experience to Amphitrite, which has secured cargo capacity from the centuries-old marketplace.
Commenting on the appointment, Amphitrite chief executive Konstantinos Tampakakis stated: “This is a pivotal moment for us as we expand our specialist marine offering to include cargo business.
“Scott is a prominent figure in the cargo market and another-high calibre addition to our team – his extensive experience and unique profile make him the perfect leader to drive the growth and success of our newly formed cargo division.
“I am extremely excited about the prospects for our new business, and I am confident that we will further expand our exceptional service to brokers and clients within the cargo market. We all extend a very warm welcome to Scott as he embarks on this journey with us.”
The formation of the new division comes on the heels of a significant milestone for Amphitrie. Earlier this year, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) granted full authorisation to the MGA.
At the time, Tampakakis said: “We are now able to realise our growth ambitions and further capitalise on the opportunities in the specialist marine market.
“Tysers has proven a valuable and stable partner, and I would like to thank them for their continued regulatory support and for all their efforts in securing our success.”
The CEO was referring to the Lloyd’s broker that had acted as Amphitrite’s regulatory principal from when it launched in 2018.
