Sailing towards becoming a full-service intermediary, AFL Insurance Brokers Ltd has launched its commercial marine division – tapping senior marine insurance professional Alex Mott (pictured) to serve as marine director.
Mott, who brings with him 16 years of international experience, was head broker in charge of the Ed/CGNB marine broking team. He specialises in marine risks such as hull and machinery, disbursements, war risks, and P&I (protection and indemnity).
“Building AFL into a full-service independent broker is a compelling proposition, and I am looking forward to leading the marine division at this exciting time,” commented Mott. “The company culture of innovation, and its customer-first approach to developing new products is challenging the market to do things more efficiently and effectively – which is exactly what clients are looking for.”
Steadily building out its wholesale and retail capabilities, the Lloyd’s broker also recently made appointments to its corporate division and property & casualty businesses. Chair Toby Esser described the marine launch as a “logical step” amid AFL’s ongoing full-service journey.
“We are responding to increased demand from clients for a modern, proactive approach to processing and placing marine business, and are delighted that a skilled insurance professional of Alex’s calibre is coming onboard,” he said.
Referring to Mott as “the perfect fit” to steer the new division forward, AFL chief executive Bob Finch added that marine insurance is at the historic heart of the London Market and that London’s long-standing roots as a marine hub cannot be taken for granted.
“We are committed to developing and adopting the latest technology and modernisation initiatives to deliver efficiencies in processing and placing marine business, and maintain London’s position as a global leader in marine insurance,” noted Finch.
