Jonathan Humm (pictured) has made the switch from Hiscox, where he served as deputy hull underwriter, to become class underwriter for marine hull at AEGIS London.
The key hire, who started his marine insurance career in 2005 as a Marsh broker, will report to marine and energy head Richard Palengat while based in AEGIS London’s headquarters on Gracechurch Street.
“London’s hull market is at a critical juncture and is under pressure to improve profitability after a run of poor results,” commented Palengat. “AEGIS London’s hull team is uniquely positioned to rise to this challenge, having outperformed the Lloyd’s market consistently since its start in 2012.
“Our mantra of disciplined, profitable growth will serve us well in the aftermath of the costliest year on record for Lloyd’s.”
Describing Humm as “a very welcome addition” to the team, Palengat said the class underwriter’s skills and knowledge will help AEGIS London build on its success, particularly in the insurer’s niche specialisms like brownwater hull, distressed business, and esoteric risks.
