Specialist managing general agent (MGA) HB Underwriting has expanded its digital offerings with the launch of a new health and social care product and an innovative quote and buy portal.

This service, the MGA says, is designed for individuals who need insurance when employing a personal assistant or carer to support their social or healthcare needs.

Employer Protect is tailored for those using Local Authority Direct Payments or NHS Personal Health Budgets to hire personal assistants. As employers, they are legally required to have Employers’ Liability Insurance.

HB Underwriting explains that this product addresses a gap in the market, providing an essential service for an underserved segment. The bluescape platform, designed by Total Systems plc, allows customers to easily estimate their premium through a dynamic quote preview that adjusts as they input their specific requirements.

The portal also enables users to save or purchase their quote and manage their insurance policy at any time through an easy-to-use online platform.

Employer Protect not only offers the necessary cover but also provides additional support. Customers have access to online resources and legal advice partners to help with their legal obligations and responsibilities as employers. The policy also includes legal defence coverage.

Kyle Lomas (pictured above), managing director at HB Underwriting, stated that the launch of Employer Protect highlights the versatility of the bluescape platform as the company integrates a new brand and channel into its operations.

“We are delighted that Employer Protect has successfully launched. The innovation demonstrated by HB Underwriting is a perfect fit for our bluescape platform,” Total Systems managing director Rhys Collins said.

HB Underwriting teamed up with Total Systems back in 2020, with the latter helping the company prepare for its digital transformation.

“We chose Total Systems because they offer the best digital platform for our complex insurance needs,” Lomas said. “Just as importantly, however, they also impressed us with their professional approach during the selection process, and we see them as being a good fit culturally. They are a company that we will feel comfortable working with.”
