AXA has launched the Mind Health Self-check, a new tool designed to promote mental health awareness and prevention. A news release noted that the tool comes as a response to a growing global need for accessible mental health support, with recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighting a significant loss in productivity due to mental health issues. According to WHO, depression and anxiety are estimated to cost the global economy $1 trillion each year, with 12 billion workdays lost annually due to these conditions.
The Mind Health Self-check is a free and anonymous online tool available in 13 countries and 10 languages. It provides users with a personalised diagnosis and guidance on managing mental health by exploring how factors like skills, beliefs, and lifestyle affect well-being. The initiative attempts to help people make proactive decisions about their mental health.
AXA’s recent report on mental health found that 70% of people at risk of depression, anxiety, or stress consider their mental health to be “good” or “average”, yet the proportion of individuals living with mental health concerns remains high at 32%—a return to levels seen at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. AXA said the findings highlight the need for accessible mental health resources to bridge the gap in awareness.
The tool launch is part of AXA’s broader strategy to leverage its expertise in risk management to address rising mental health challenges, including work-related mental health issues, a leading cause of absenteeism.
Patrick Cohen, CEO of AXA European Markets & Health, explained the company’s approach: “This new tool is a resource for anyone looking to understand and improve their mental well-being. By providing information and personalised support, AXA intends to continue to support everyone with innovative solutions and dedicated support. Our role as an insurance company is to be on the front line of risk management and people’s health and well-being.”
