Ancillary insurance provider Arc Legal Group (Arc Legal), part of AmTrust Financial Group, has announced the appointment of Lee Taylor (pictured) as its chief executive officer (CEO), effective immediately and subject to regulatory approval.

Taylor succeeds Frank O’Malley, who co-founded the company and has led it for over two decades.

Taylor (pictured) brings extensive industry experience, having spent 20 years at Allianz Partners in various leadership roles, including chief sales officer for UK & Ireland and CEO of Allianz Partners Benelux and Nordics.

His new role at Arc Legal will focus on advancing the company’s presence in the UK ancillary insurance market.

In a statement regarding his appointment, Taylor reiterated the company’s commitment to growing its portfolio and focusing on delivering high-quality services to solidify its position as the leading ancillary insurance provider in the UK.

“I am delighted to be joining Arc Legal at this exciting time as we look to build on the previous successes,” he said.

Grady Womack, head of AmTrust International’s Fee Business, commented on the leadership change, acknowledging O’Malley’s contributions.

“Frank leaves behind a true success story, with a strong business and a team well positioned for the next chapter of its development, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” he said.

Arc Legal carer employer insurance coverage

The leadership changes come on the back of Arc Legal’s new partnership with HB Underwriting to offer tailored insurance solutions for individuals who employ carers.

The collaboration seeks to address gaps in coverage for people employing personal carers, often funded through the NHS or local authorities.

Traditional home insurance policies typically cover domestic staff, such as cleaners and gardeners, but often exclude protections for those employing carers. Under the Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969, these policyholders are considered employers and are required to carry insurance for this purpose.

To fill this gap, HB Underwriting has developed a product that combines its Employers’ Liability insurance with Arc Legal’s Employment Defence cover. The coverage protects policyholders from claims made by carers through employment tribunals and includes compensation coverage. Additionally, policyholders will have access to Arc Legal’s Legal Assistance Helpline and employment-related resources.

Martin Johnson, head of partnerships at Arc Legal, said the collaboration aligns well with Arc Legal’s strategy to expand its footprint in commercial legal expenses insurance.

Kyle Lomas, managing director at HB Underwriting, added that the partnership will provide additional resources to policyholders.
